Maths Week in St. Declan’s
Each year to promote Maths in our school we hold a Maths Week. During this week the children are encouraged to recognise Maths in our daily lives and play games that involve mathematical concepts. Maths week in St Declan’s was full to the brim with fun filled Maths activities. Our Infant classes were kept busy sorting, matching, classifying, balancing, ordering and sequencing sets. First and second classes had participated in Maths workshops from ALOHA. The focus was on brain development using the abacus and mental arithmetic to improve children’s concentration, photographic memory, listening skills, creativity, spatial orientation, analytical abilities, and imagination. Our 5th classes went to the Helix last Tuesday the 18th of October to see Andrew Jeffrey who is a mathemagician. Different classes completed Maths trails around the school. They used their Maths eyes to find shapes, numbers, colours in the environment. Thank you to Ms Crehan for coordinating the week. It was great fun.
