We have been reflecting on the impact of Covid-19 on children’s learning. Motivating children to read for pleasure has been identified as a key area for development. We are introducing a programme called Accelerated Reader which will help us motivate, monitor, and manage 3rd – 6th Class pupils’ independent reading practice. The aim will be to develop a true love for reading among our children. Ms. Máire Lydon (Assistant Principal) has been leading this new initiative in the school.

We have been busy getting ready to re-open the library. It was a mammoth undertaking to get all the books back into the library from the classrooms and scanned onto Aladdin again. In addition, with the new Accelerated Reader programme we are introducing, all books had to be scanned, checked, labelled and categorised. There was a lot of time and work involved and we couldn’t have achieved this without the brilliant support of so many parents. We had a great response from parents when we put out the request for help. We want to thank all those parents who volunteered to help out in the library over the past few weeks. Your time, support and volunteerism is greatly appreciated. The children are looking forward to getting set up on Accelerated Reader and using the library again.
