As part of Science Week 2025 Mr McKeown’s 5th class were invited to the library for an exciting kite making workshop. The workshop incorporated the key elements of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) allowing the children to explore how forces, structure, and design affect how a kite flies.

Each child designed and created their own unique kite, while also learning practical tips and techniques to achieve the best flight. Back at school, the class headed to the pitch to test their creations. Some kites soared high into the sky, while others needed a little extra engineering and encouragement – but the enthusiasm never dipped!

It was a hands-on, creative, and engaging learning experience, and the children were extremely proud of their fantastic designs. Thank you to Ashbourne Library for providing the workshop for us.
