Happy Grandparents Day
We had a very special day in St. Declan’stoday as we celebrated Grandparents Day. They arrived after little break and were greeted by our Student Cuncil who escorted them to the hall.
We had a presentation in the hall which was led by Mr Kearins. For some grandparents it was their very first visit to the school; for others it’s a daily visit to collect their grandchild(ren). We also remembered the grandparents who couldn’t be with us, those who could not travel, those who live far away, those who are sick, and those who are with God in heaven. They were all in our thoughts wherever they are today.
Each year, on the Wednesday of Catholic Schools Week schools nationwide celebrate the contribution of grandparents. Our grandparents are a special gift in our lives. They watch over us as we grow and are often some of the most important teachers in our lives. They deserve to be appreciated and cared for and we should always show them the respect and dignity they deserve.
Opening Prayer
We thank you for our wonderful grandparents. They bring such joy and happiness into our lives. Thank you for all the special times that we have with them. Please watch over them, protect them and care for them now. May they know your goodness and love always. Amen.
Mary Kate and Vicki spoke on behalf of the Student Council to welcome our grandparents.
Conor and Hannah read a poem about Grandparents.
Some of the children were interviewed and asked the question…..What do you like to do with your grandparents?? We showed a video of their answers. It was very very CUTE !!
Our three 6th classes sang the songs Proud Mary and Something Inside So Strong. They were accompained by Mr Mc Keown and Mrs O’Rourke.
Thank you to everyone who made the special effort come to St Declan’s today. Your grandchildren are a credit to you all. A special thank you to Ms O’Malley for co-ordinating Grandparents Day. It started off small and escalated rapidly. Thank you to all our teachers in St. Declan’s for working with all the children. We are very grateful for all their hard work. They have heard lots of wonderful stories about grandparents throughout the week. Finally thank you to Father Ciaran for joining us and to our PA for providing refreshments.
Grandparemts were brought around to visit the classrooms and spend some time with their grandchildren. Some read stories, sang songs, answered questions, looked at their work and most importantly created lots of magnificent memories.
They had a look at some of the lovely art work prepared.
We put up photographs of our grandparents in our hall on our tree.
They came back to the hall then for a cup of tea. What a super day !!!
