Active Schools Week 2026

June 27, 2026

We had a very busy week in St. Declan’s for Active Schools Week. All classes participated in different workshops throughout the week.  We also had our Junior and Senior Sports Day which were both very enjoyable days for the children. Thank you to all family members who cheered the children on from the side lines.

Thank you to Ms Molloy, our Sports Coordinator and our Active School Committee for organising the week. It was a huge success, enjoyed by all.

We had the final of our mini-leagues competition, which has been coordinated by Mr McLoughlin over the past number of weeks for children in 3rd and 4th class. Mr McLoughlin had the assistance of 6th Class pupils to organise, referee and manage teams. The children really enjoyed the tournament. Well done to team Kerry who won the tournament.

Twenty four pupils from fourth to sixth class represented St. Declan’s at Claremont Stadium in Navan on Tuesday 16th June. We entered track and field events. Running events included sprints (60m and 100m) and middle distance (600m and 800m). The field events were ball throw and long jump.

Jax Hanney earned a bronze medal for ball throw. Thanks to Ms Leggett, Ms Murtagh and Ms Kelly for organising the training. Well done to all athletes involved in the event and to all pupils that took part in training. We look forward to more track and field in the next school year.

A huge thank you to all our staff who go above and beyond to promote sport in our school. Their dedication and generosity of time make a real difference, and we are very fortunate to have such a committed team.
