World Down Syndrome Day 21-03-2024
We celebrated World Down Syndrome Day on Thursday the 21st of March 2024, It was great to see the children decked out in their colourful odd socks to mark the day and to spread awareness. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The theme for World Down Syndrome Day 2024 was End The Stereotypes.
We had a guest appearance from Seán who has Down Syndrome and is living in Ashbourne. Seán is uncle to Heidi Room 12, Hannah Room 11 and Danny Room 7. Seán spoke to the boys and girls at our 1st/2nd class assembly about having Down Syndrome. He works in the Pillo Hotel helping as an events manager for weddings and also in the Ratoath Garden Centre. Danny told us he loves Seán’s fist bumps, Hannah loves his hugs and Heidi loves to share cookies with him when she goes to visit her Granny. Thank you Seán for coming in to visit us and thank you to Laura (Seán’s sister) for bringing him in. We will all be sure to give him a wave if we see him around Ashbourne.
