St Declan’s Flag Ceremony
We had a special day in St Declan’s yesterday. All classes and teachers gathered outside in the sunshine for our flag ceremony.
First we congratulated the boys and girls from Ms Collins 5th class and Ms O’Connor’s 5th class on completing the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. Both classes worked really hard all year preparing their projects. Tagh Riordan from the Toyota garage in Ashbourne spoke for a few minutes and then helped raise the flag.
Then the Green Schools Committee spoke about the work they did throughout the year getting ready for the Bio Diversity flag. Clare Archer a former teacher from St. Declan’s got up to speak about the importance of being a green school and how she started St. Declan’s off on the road to becoming greener many years ago. Mr Reidy thanked Ms Lydon and the green schools committee for all their hard work.
Finally, we spoke about active schools week and the active schools committee read out some statistics for us about activities. Our caretaker Dessie Donnelly helped raise our active flag. Dessise was the Irish manager for the Irish boxing team and has played a pivotal role in Irish boxing. Mr Reidy thanked Ms Quinlan for all her hard work along with the green schools committee preparing and achieving the active schools flag.
We are very proud of all our4 achievements in St. Declan’s NS.
