October Assembly 1st and 2nd classes
Opening Prayer
All Saints, All souls
Remember those, Who kept the faith, Who always turned to pray,
Who showed the love of Jesus ,In their lives from day to day
Remember those, this special time, who live with God above,
All Saints, All Souls, And all our own, who live with God in love.
Welcome from Mr Kearins
As we light our candle today we remember family and friends who have died. All Souls Day is celebrated on the 2nd of November in the church. It is a tradition of honouring and respecting the memory of the faithful departed. You all spoke with your teachers during the week about people in your family that has gone to heaven or who may be very sick, and also people that are special and important to you . You all got a leaf to write down the names of people that you want to pray for during assembly today. Can you hold up your leaf and we are going to pray in silence for all the people mentioned.
Prayers of the faithful Room 11
We pray for all those who have died, especially those whom we have known and loved. We pray they enjoy perfect happiness and total fulfilment in eternal life.
We pray for our families. May our love for each other support us during good times and bad times. Our family should always be a very important part of our lives. We pray for the sick and for those who care for them at home and in hospital. May they know the strength of God is always with them. Food Dudes I hear you are all busy tasting fruit and vegetables for our Food dudes programme. Well done to everyone who is earning rewards and stickers by tasting different types of fruit and vegetables every day. After Halloween you will be starting Phase 2 of the programme where you will be encouraged to bring in your own fruit and vegetables from home to earn certificates. We promote healthy eating in St. Declan’s and it’s great to see everyone involved. Keep up the good work. Maths Week
Maths week took place last week in St. Declan’s. It was great to see all the classes involved in so many fun activities. I know the three first classes went to Imagonisity in Sandyford last Tuesday and had a great day. Some classes did maths trails, maths notice boards and maths workshops. Thank you to your teachers for making it such a fun week and to Ms Crehan for co-ordinating the week.
Library
We have a very exciting week in St. Declan’s this week. Our school library is being re-opened tomorrow the 23rd of October. We have a very special visitor Mr Reidy coming into help us mark the occasion. We have decided to dedicate our new library to Mr Reidy who was the principal here for 16 years until he retired in June. I hope you will all enjoy reading the new books we have bought and going down to visit the library with your teacher. Can I ask everyone to be very careful with the books and to respect them as they belong to everyone in the school. We will be bringing classes down to read stories to them during the week. A big thank you to Mr McKeown, Maura, Ellen, Lila , Theresa and our PA who helped to get the library ready.
