Fifth and Sixth Class Assembly
Opening Prayer
Dear God, thank you for our friends. Thank you for the fun we can have with them and the happy times we spend together. Please help me to be a good friend. Please help me not to be selfish but to think always of other people and their needs. Amen.
Mr Kearins
The theme of this assembly is friendship. Friendships are among the most important relationships you’ll have in your life. Many of your favourite memories probably include times you’ve spent with friends. But having friends can be hard work sometimes, when they get on your nerves or when they’re going through a tough time. Not knowing what to do or say to help them can be frustrating and emotionally challenging. However, doing your best to make them feel better shows you care about being a good friend. The only way to have a good friend is to be a good friend.
A friend is someone………………….
- you can trust and won’t judge you
- won’t deliberately hurt your feelings, but will show kindness and respect
- will love you not because they feel they have to, but because they choose to
- you can depend on, who is loyal and whose company you enjoy
- will be there no matter what your situation is
- is trustworthy and not afraid to tell you the truth, no matter how hard it is sometimes
- accepts you for who you are, and lend you an ear when you need advice
Kayleigh, Bradley and Cian from Room 3 read out their friendship nominations.

Aldi Schools Competition
Well done to everyone who is helping collect the stickers from Aldi. We have filled one full poster with 300 stickers and we have started another one. This is super work. Keep it up!! Each full poster is entered into a draw to win €50,000 to go towards playing grounds for a school.
Quiz Teams
A huge congratulations to our Junior and Senior quiz teams who both achieved second place in the Pillo Hotel on the 1st of February. There were 12 rounds with 6 questions in each round. We are so proud of Aoife Room 2, Eoin Room 2, Nafina Room 2 and Matthew Room 3 who represented our Senior quiz team. A big thank you to Ms O’Malley for preparing the children for the event. It was a fantastic achievement
Science Week
Science week will take place in St. Declan’s next week, from the 4th to the 8th of March. We have lots of events planned or all the different classes. Keep an eye on our school website for all the news. Thank you to Ms Mc Enroy for co-ordinating the event.
Corfheile
Corfheile is a non-competitive music festival for primary school children. The children that participate do so for the enjoyment of singing and the love of playing music, which helps promote confidence and a feeling of self-esteem. This year we have 69 children from our 5thclasses performing in Corfheile on Friday the 9thof March. Thank you to Mr Mc Keown, Mrs O’Rourke, Ms King and Ms Geoghegan for preparing the children for this event . Good Luck !!!
Disco
I hope you all enjoyed our school disco that was held last Wednesday the 20th of February. We are very grateful to our PA for organising it to help raise funds for our school so we can buy items needed for all the classes. I am happy to report the behaviour was super on the night. It is important to represent St. Declan’s well even outside of school hours. Well done everyone!!
