The Andy Morgan – Give Life a Chance Foundation aims to spread a message of hope to everyone who has lost someone to suicide and those suffering with depression.
The organisation, which was set up in 2011, has raised thousands of euors for local suicide prevention and support services in Dublin.
The initiative aims to help schoolchildren mix with their peers and avoid social isolation.
If a child is feeling lonely or left out, they can sit on the bench and someone will reach out to them in order to teach children to look out for one another.
Yesterday we had Angie and Amanda come to our school with a Buddy Bench for us. We brought out all the Junior and Senior Infants so they could see the bench and sit on it. Amanda explained to us that if you were feeling sad or lonely on yard or had no one to play with that you sit on the bench and wit for a friend to come along. We sang the Buddy Bench song and we all got a chance to dance. We can’t wait to try it out on our yard.
