Active Schools Week
It’s a busy week in St. Declan’s as we celebrate Active Schools Week. As part of Active Schools Week we had Mark Mc Cabe from SKIPnROPE Ireland came into our school this week to facilitate skipping workshops. The workshop is part of our Active Schools Flag Award.
Skipping is a terrific form of exercise that helps a child’s agility, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and can increase speed through footwork. It teaches children about rhythm and when put into team routines, it provides them with team work skills and encourages them to have confidence in their sporting ability. It is a great way to exercise, maintain good health while having lots of fun. In the workshop, the children learnt a host of footwork skills, beginner to intermediate skipping tricks, long rope games and partner skipping. Thank you to Mr Farrell our sports coordinator for organising the event.

Ms O’Halloran was busy in the hall today teaching yoga to our Junior and Senior Infants. Yoga builds core strength for good posture and overall physical fitness. It helps to maintain flexibility and mobility. It improves balance, alignment and coordination with practice of postures. It helps children develop a positive image of their body and an awareness of how to look after it. The children really enjoyed the relaxation and found it very calming.
