Active Schools Week
We had a very busy week in St. Declan’s last week for Active Week. On Monday we had our Senior Sports Day and Tuesday we had Junior Sports Day. It was great fun and the sun shone brightly. We had dance stations, egg and spoon race, ball games, big bouncy ball races, obstacle course race, penalty shoot outs and relay races. Third and fourth classes enjoyed tag rugby with Ashbourne Rugby Club and also the coached from Donnaghmore/Ashbourne.
Junior and Senior Infants did dancing in the hall with Ms Brogan and Ms Jenkinson while 1st, 5th and 6th enjoyed dancing with Yaz from Aniss Stage School.
Ms O’Halloran and Ms Fitzgerald did Yoga in the hall with Junior Infants. Senior Infants and second classes.
On Thursday the Meath All Ireland Ladies winning captain Máire O’Shaughnessy and fellow team mate Aoibheann Cleary visited us with the cup. Both girls play with Donnaghmore /Ashbourne GFC, They addressed the 5th and 6th class children outside and spoke about their hard work and dedication over the past few years to get them where they are today. The children asked them some very interesting questions as we are very interested in GAA here in St. Declan’s. Who knows in years to come we might have a few of our children representing our county. They officially opened on Sli Na Slainte Run that we hope to get great use out of.
On Friday we had jersey day and the children and staff got to wear in a jersey of their choice. It was a very colourful day in St. Declan’s. Look at Room 9, 3rd class with Ms Behan.
Thank you to Mr Farrell our PE co-ordinator and the Active Schools Committee for organising all the fun activities for the week and to all our talented teachers for helping out. We had a great week
