We learnt a lot about 1916 recently. March 15th next year has been declared Proclamation Day in schools. Each school will get a new national flag and a copy of the Proclamation. We received our flag and Proclamation recently. Our class lined up in the yard. Keeva and Tom went to the hall with the Student Council for a ceremony.

We also made our own documentaries about ‘Community and Cultural Life in Ireland in 1916’. We’re looking forward to even more activities in 2016. In the words of Taoiseach Enda Kenny: Irish people should “celebrate and have pride in Ireland’s independence, and honour those who gave their lives so that the dream of self-determination could be a reality”.
