Science Week 2015 Room 7

The Science Fair is on Thursday 12th November. Third Class (Room 7) have been busy investigating starch. We wanted to find out if it is a solid or a liquid.

We found out that it turns solid when we roll it in our hands and then it goes liquidy and drizzles through our fingers when we hold it flat in our hands.

It’s actually a colloid. This means that the starch disperses through the water and doesn’t sink. This makes it feel gooey!

Try it at home! When you’ve mixed the starch and water: Rest your fingers on the surface of the goo. Let them sink down to the bottom of the bowl. Then try to pull them out fast. What happens? Now roll it in a ball and see what happens.

What skills did we use? Predicting, experimenting, observing, recording, classifying and analysing.
