Fifth and Sixth Class March Assembly
Opening Prayer
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Welcome to our March assembly. It has been a very busy month in St Declan’s for the month of March.
Science Week
Science week took place in St. Declan’s from the 4th to the 8th of March. It was a fantastic week filled with lots of activities. We are very lucky in our school to have lots of science equipment that we can use to carry out experiments. Fifth classes attended a Junior Einstein workshop. Room 24 and Room 4 went to a STEM workshop in the library. The science demonstration in the hall by all the classes was a super day. I really enjoyed talking to all of you about your experiments. Well done to all the classes and your teachers for working so hard to prepare your experiments. Thank you to Ms Mc Enroy for co-ordinating the event.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Seachtain na Gaeilge was another great week in St Declan’s. We all made a big effort to speak as much Irish as we could for the week. Well done for participating in the puc fada and the poster competition. Thank you to Ms Lydon for organising the event.
Tra Na Gceist
Well done to the children from 6th class who represented St Declan’s in the Tra Na Gceist in the library on the 8th of March. They came 2nd place.

Corfheile
Congratulations to all our fifth class pupils who took part in Corfheile on Friday the 8th of March. They did St. Declan’s proud with their performance. Thank you to Mrs O’Rourke, Ms Geoghegan and Mr Mc Keown who prepared and accompanied the children on the day and to Ms King who conducted the choir. The standard of singing was fantastic with beautiful clear notes and wonderful dynamics. Well done to all the children and teachers involved for their dedication to the task.
Cyber Bullying
Last week Barbara and Eoin from Ashbourne Garda station came in to speak to our four fifth classes in relation to cyber bullying and staying safe online. They spoke about the danger of using anonymous apps in particular and how harmful they can be. It is important to remember that there are offline consequences to online behaviour. If you are not prepared to say something to someone’s face then do not do it online. Remember everything that is posted on social media can be traced back to you.
Athletics
Well done to the children from 4th and 5th classes who went to Navan racecourse last week to represent St Declan’s in athletics. They were all fantastic. The children from 5th class were Zoe Galvin. Andrea Pop, Lucy Mc Neary, Katie O’Connell, Christabel O’Odususi-Kirby, Aleksandra Strelcova, Gabriele Pranckeviciute, Josh Burke, Leonard Murray, Dylan Lematy, Blaine Doyle, Rhys Murray and Alberto Jimenze Moreno. Josh, Blaine, Leonard and Dylan came 3rd in their category and we have medals here to present to them. Well done boys. Thank you to Ms Kelly who trained the children for the event and to Mr Mc Keown and Theresa for accompanying the children.
Ceolchoirm
We had a very special treat during Seachtain Na Gaeilge as our very talented staff took to the stage for a trad session. We had Mr Mc Keown on guitar and banjo, Ms Jenkinson on bodhran, Ms Geaghegan and Ms Lydon on button accordian, Mrs Mc Cormack, Myself and Ms Kelly on flute and Ms Crowley on violin. We spoke to the children about our instruments and showed the audience how to play them. We were treated to an array of reels and jigs and Ms Jenkinson took to the stage to show us some of her Irish dancing. A special thanks to Fionn, Liam, Katie and Jorja who sang for us during the show. Thanks to all the teachers involved.
La Glas
I was really impressed with all the colourful outfits on Green Day. What an array of green we had.
School Marathon
The School Marathon Relay is a very unique event that involves getting everyone in our school to combine our efforts to run the distance of a marathon; 42,195 meters. This is done in a relay format. The relay is set out in a 100m circle. Each child will run 200m but infants might run 100m depending on how fit they are. Thank you to our PA for organising this event to raise money for our school. Sponsorship cards will be given out soon and I hope you will all try your best to raise money for the event as it will benefit everyone. We can all start training soon !!
